Food Revolution!

Have you heard of Jamie Oliver? He’s the passionate British chef who’s got a new show on ABC entitled “Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution.” Through this program, he’s attempting to convince people in Huntington, West Virginia (and the rest of the United States), that pizza for breakfast in public schools, French fries as vegetables, and mountains of processed foods are NOT okay! Specifically, Oliver is attempting to change the way children approach food and, as he declares on his website, “to get people all over America to reconnect with their food and change the way they eat.”

The British chef with a vision to change the way we approach food!http://www.ivillage.com/jamie-oliver-starting-his-very-own-food-revolution/3-a-65162

Jamie recently won the Technology, Entertainment, Design (TED) nonprofit foundation’s Prize wish in order to work in West Virginia. Here’s a quote from his speech, available to view on TED.com:

“I know it’s weird having an English person standing here before you talking about all this. All I can say is, I care. I’m a father. And I love this country. And I believe truly, actually, that if change can be made in this country, beautiful things will happen around the world. If America does it I believe other people will follow. It’s incredibly important.”

I don’t know about you, but I’m a BIG fan of this British miracle-worker. He’s already done so much across the pond in England, educating people about food choices and revolutionizing the way they approach their meals. Check out all the books he’s written and programs he’s started on his website. If that’s not enough… he has a TON of free, delicious recipes to try, ranging from elegant salads to simple pizzas and pancakes – all from scratch!

So – to have a food revolution or not have a food revolution? Thoughts? Go to Jamie’s website:

Rihanna in Alexandre Vauthier Spring 2010 Couture

Is it me or is Rihanna ALREADY going to be the Fashion Icon of 2010???

Well, I hope it’s not just me. If you don’t agree that Ri Ri can take a brown paper bag, and make it look absolutely fabulous, then you must check her out again. Even after the controversy with her former beau Chris Brown in early 2009, and embarrassing photos surfacing of her with a bruised and battered face, Rihanna still came back looking gorgeous, and expressing her individual style better than ever.

We all remember when Rihanna cut her long tresses off, and went for a short dark edgy style. Every time you saw her she was dressed in dark colors, evoking that rock princess look. Everyone began to imitate this style. And you would be lying if you said you didn’t! There are even sites like rhiannadailystyle.com dedicated to following the trends she has set, not only in the music business, but in her contributions to the world of fashion.

Rihanna exudes so much confidence in EVERYTHING she wears. Even this early in 2010 she has been making the front page of many different blog sites for her unique style. To Rihanna, the runway is everyday life. She makes sure the world knows when she steps out. Her latest look was featured on necolebitchie.com a blog dedicated to the music, fashion, culture, and of course GOSSIP in the life Buppies (Young Black Professionals). The picture is of Ri Ri spotted at the Echo Awards in Berlin wearing a green jumpsuit from the Alexandre Vauthier Spring 2010 Couture Collection, and of course her feet were adorned with Christian Louboutins. You look at the pictures and tell me if you think you could pull this look off.  There’s no need for her to make albums anymore, she can just show up, sit front row at fashion shows, and be fabulous her whole life… or maybe that’s the life I want (wake up from dream).

In the current issue of I.D Magazine, Rihanna dishes on her personal style saying, “I love playing with different looks. To me an outfit is a picture. When I see it, I see it as a visual, so I love playing with that and making different pictures. Putting it together is the best part to me.”

Now mark my words when I say, she’s going to be the top trend setter in 2010…the only person that’s even close is Lady Gaga…and that’s a completely different blog ;)

Savage Love Podcast

Sadly, Spring Break is over and it’s time to get back to studying. I have, however, returned from Spring Break with a new obsession – the Savage Love Podcast. A couple

weeks ago, in preparation for spring break travel, I went onto iTunes and looked at the free Podcasts. Savage Love caught my eye, and being the impatient person that I am, I downloaded about 10 Podcasts immediately. Even though I did not know if I would like these Podcasts, I figured I would download a bunch, and I could always delete

them later. My lack of patience paid off. I was entertained for countless hours on the plane. I will warn you, Savage Love Podcast is vulgar and extremely bizarre, to put it lightly. Yet it is extremely funny and you will feel like the most normal person on this planet after listening. The opening is, “If you’re stuck in a relationship quandary or if you’re looking for sexual harmony, well, there’s nothing you can’t ask on the Savage Lovecast.” That should clue you in a little to what the Podcast is. People call in with

their relationship questions and Dan Savage, the host, answers the questions both bluntly and humorously. So, if you’re bored of your music or just want something funny to listen to, I suggest you download Savage Love.

Tiga…Tiga…Tiger Woods, ya’ll!

AP Images

It’s time I break my silence. After months of longing, I can’t control myself any longer. It is time for me to discuss the topic of a once immortal. Of a man who was worth a billion dollars, and was arguably considered one of the best athletes in the world. This man, who after nearly three months of hiding (or sex rehab), is finally breaking his silence. I’m talking about Tiger Woods, ya’ll.
Those who know me know I have been pretty infatuated with the Tiger Woods saga for the past few months. While things have certainly calmed down, both on the accumulating list of Tiger’s mistresses and the hits on my MacBook to gossip websites, Tiger Woods is prepared to break his silence on Friday morning.
For those of us who know anything about Tiger Woods know he is going to read a carefully prepared statement. His agent has already come out and said that he will be apologizing, but will not be fielding any questions from reporters. For over a decade, Tiger and his camp of agents and publicists, has been able to manipulate the media, never letting anyone in to see the “real” Tiger. This is a man who was in complete control of his life and his image in the eye of the public. This perfectly controlled image, along with unbelievable success at his sport, earned him millions and millions of dollars in endorsements. In fact, this past year he was again named Forbes Magazine’s richest athlete in the world. However, the one thing he couldn’t control was the urge to take “it” out of his pants.
Sure, Tiger definitely messed up big time. He has some serious making up to do to his wife.  I don’t even think there is a word to describe how big of a hole he has to climb out to salvage his marriage. That said, let’s be honest, people. Those of us who are Tiger Woods fans (and have been for a long time) cheer for him because of his performance on the golf course. Whether he cheated on his wife or with a hundred different women is kind of irrelevant. To me, personally, it is what he does on the golf course that matters. Would I set him up with my sister? Probably not. Actually, who am I kidding, if Tiger Woods was my brother-in-law that would be pretty sick. Anyways, I think you get my point.
To further my point, I don’t think Tiger owes us anything more than getting his a** back out on Tour so those of us, who still want to, can root for him. Would winning the Masters in April help mend some hurt souls out there? Yeah, I’d say so.
However, at Friday’s press conference I would like to see a little humility out of him. Clearly his perfect exterior has been cracked a bit, so he may as well just come out and be his real self.
Tiger Woods is certainly not the first celebrity to be caught in the middle of a sex scandal, and he surely will not be the last. I guess a scandal like this shows us that sometimes the power of lust and temptation bears more weight than hundreds of millions of dollars.
