Miami's Fashion Magazine

We’ve been working hard on our fourth issue for a few weeks now. The theme is “Now and Then,” so all the articles, fashion editorials, and even the layout is inspired by the juxtaposition between past and present. I’ll post some more images once they’re edited next week, but for now, here’s a collection of inspiration I put together on the wall in my kitchen. The images came from magazines and catalogs I had lying around. It was a beautiful thing to wake up and see for a few mornings.

Freedom is out of fashion. Say goodbye to yourself. When you stare at the shop, the shop is staring back at you. I drift away. There is a storm inside my heart but there is no sound. Remote controlled. I am not your cupcake.
What are these? No, they’re not sentences from some cryptic, angry letter to your controlling ex-boyfriend. They’re biting one liners, examples of the pithy scribbles drawn into most of self-taught illustrator Raphaël Vicenzi’s work.
I can’t remember how I first happened upon Vicenzi, but the minute I saw his illustrations, I was hooked. They feel like illustrated collages with their long, twisted lines, shoots of bright colors, and mix of alluring figures and random objects, like wolves or wings. Words make secret, hidden messages intertwined with all this.
Vicenzi lives in Brussels, Belgium. Find his work at http://www.mydeadpony.com/ (He has a wacky sense of humor! It only increases my obsession.)
Love love,
