Marchesa Fall RTW

I always try to stay updated with the runway shows of my favorite designers during fashion week. I’ll usually flip through the collections, and find a few pieces I love, but most of the collections seem out of reach. However, during this year’s New York fashion week, I fell in love like never before. Marchesa’s Fall Ready-to-Wear collection is one I completely identified with. Every single dress and every single detail intrigued me. I love the trends that Georgina Chapman introduces through Marchesa’s line, and will be excited to see them make their way mainstream in the future. I loved the colors, the silhouettes, the textures – the entire collection just makes me excited! Take a look for yourself and view the collection here. (Images from style.com)

“I believe it, even if it is not true”

Music Playlist at MixPod.com

Miike Snow is a Swedish group, famous for writing and producing albums for stars such as Britney Spears and Madonna. Their self-titled album features many catchy songs, which I haven’t been able to get out of my head. My favorite track from the album is “Cult Logic.” I’ve posted it above, so give it a listen. Another popular track, “Animal,” has even been featured on Gossip Girl. The whole album is fun and easy to listen to, I definitely recommend it.

“You don’t move me anymore”

Yeasayer has been one of my favorite bands for awhile now. I saw them live two summers ago at Lollapalooza when I had only casually listened to them, but after their performance I fell in love. This past summer they performed at Pitchfork Festival in Chicago, and their set was magical. My friends and I were in the front, in the crowd, and it started raining as they began playing. Everyone was dancing and and singing along, and as they played their song “Sunshine,” the sun came out as if on cue. The track above, “O.N.E.” is from their new album, ODD BLOOD, which was just released on Tuesday with great reviews. From what I’ve heard so far, I am impressed. If you like “O.N.E.” you can check out the rest of the album on their myspace, here.

What Everyone’s Talking About: the Apple iPad

Apple iPadAs everyone probably knows, Apple held a press conference yesterday to share their newest creation, the iPad, with everyone. Forget the State of the Union address, the Apple iPad has become a heavily talked-about topic in the past 24 hours. I haven’t had the time to do much research about it yet, but what I was expecting vs. what Apple released is a much different product. For a prototyping class, I did some research on the user-created prototypes for the Apple iPad and almost all of them assumed the iPad would run traditional operating system software (Snow Leopard). What Apple released however, seems to me like an enormous iPhone – running an application-based system. Although I was a bit disappointed when I first saw the application design, I have faith in Apple for making the choice they did. It will no doubt mean changes for companies everywhere, who will be racing to create their own apps for this device. I am excited to see it in person at the end of March!! (Image via Apple.com)

The XX – VCR

The xx – VCR from satelite on Vimeo.

The xx is a band that has recently grown on me. When the end of December rolled around and everyone (Pitchfork, last.fm) started making their “Top Artists of the Year” lists – the xx was always included. I had to start listening to see what all the fuss was about, and I quickly became obsessed. Their calm, low-key vibe has an optimistic quality that never fails to perk me up. They just released this video for “VCR” the other day, so check it out and when you get a chance, listen to “Heart Skipped a Beat”, my favorite from their album.
